Holistic and Somatic Therapy

When the problem permeates your life…

Most people come to therapy because something in their life hurts.

But after enough years of stress, trauma, grief, conflict, disappointment, or emotional exhaustion, the problem stops living only in the mind.

It settles into the body. Into sleep. Into breathing. Into relationships. Into the nervous system itself.

You notice it as anxiety that never fully shuts off.

Emotional flooding that comes out too fast and too strong.

A sense of numbness or distance from yourself.

Exhaustion.

Irritability.

Feeling disconnected from your own life.

Sometimes people describe it as “living in their head.”

Others say they feel trapped in survival mode.

What I’ve found over years of practice is that many intelligent and responsible adults are not “broken.”

Their nervous systems are often doing exactly what they learned to do in order to survive difficult situations.

The problem is that the old adaptations no longer fit the present moment.

This is where somatic and holistic therapy becomes important.

What real change requires.

I don’t believe healing happens only through analyzing thoughts or talking endlessly about problems.

Real change often requires helping the heart, mind, body, memory, emotions, and relationships begin communicating with each other again.

This is important because we recognize that the body does more than keep the score – it is the score.

How we work together…

In Process-Alignment Therapy (PAT), or Old-Fashioned Therapy with a twist, we work toward reintegration.

Sometimes that means slowing down enough to notice what your body already knows before your mind explains it away.

Sometimes, it means understanding how a story you tell yourself was originally built to protect you.

Sometimes, it means helping your nervous system rediscover safety, connection, agency, grief, anger, or rest.

As I often tell clients, “Trauma is what happens when experience overloads our ability to respond.”

The nervous system throws something like a circuit breaker.

Fight, flight, or freeze takes over.

And if that state lasts long enough, the body can begin carrying the burden long after the danger is gone.

Other people experience the opposite problem.

Not too much feeling, but too little.

A kind of emotional constriction or deadening.

They function. They work. They carry responsibility.

But internally, something feels distant, muted, or unreal.

Both states matter.

And both deserve care that respects the full complexity of being human.

It’s all connected.

My approach is called holistic, not because it’s vague or mystical, but because human beings are holistic creatures.

Your thoughts affect your body.

Your body affects your emotions.

Your relationships shape your nervous system.

Your past changes what feels possible in the present.

Meaning matters.

Loss matters.

Sleep matters.

Attention matters.

The situations you live in every day matter.

All of it is connected.

Let’s move toward a clearer understanding of how you work.

In our work together, we may look at:

  • What happens in your nervous system under pressure
  • Why stress, anger, anxiety, grief, or depression can take over even when you know better
  • How your body carries stress before your mind has words for it
  • Patterns in relationships that keep repeating
  • Why you may shut down, go numb, or disconnect when things get too much
  • Old survival strategies that used to protect you but now get in the way
  • The gap between how well you function on the outside and how you actually feel on the inside

I tend to work in a direct, grounded, conversational way.

I’m not here to bury you in therapy jargon. I want to help you understand what is happening in you, why it makes sense, and what can begin to shift.

For clients who are more technically or scientifically minded, I’m also happy to explain the neuroscience behind the work. Many of my clients enjoy that part of therapy because it gives them a clearer, more practical way to understand what we are doing and why it matters.

The return of coherence is possible.

Therapy, at its best, is not simply symptom reduction.

It’s the gradual restoration of coherence.

A reintegration of the parts of you that have become cut off from each other through stress, pain, survival, or time.

Or said more simply:

Helping the heart and mind learn how to work together again.

Start with a free conversation.

Many of my clients report that they began feeling better even after the first call.

The process is not mystical or esoteric. It’s conversational, pragmatic, and effective.

There’s no mystery here.

Your heart and soul have evolved so that you can thrive. I’ll be happy to explain how.
